If you believe that your application has been unfairly determined, you have the option to seek an Administrative Review by submitting a formal request.
Your eligibility for Administrative Review will be communicated to you through your decision letter.
An administrative review can be sought only if the following conditions are met:
- you’re outside the UK / inside the UK
- you applied outside the UK / inside the UK
- you do not have a right of appealagainst the refusal.
- you did not make an application to visit the UK as a Standard Visitor(except if you applied as an S2 Healthcare Visitor)

Individuals residing outside of the United Kingdom, who have been subjected to a rejection of their application and desire an administrative review, must ensure that their request is submitted within 28 days from the date of receiving the decision.
If you find yourself in the United Kingdom with a rejected application, it is crucial for you to submit a new application within two weeks of receiving the decision.
The price to pay for the fees amounts to a total of £80.00.
At present, the administrative review process may extend for a duration of half a year or possibly more until you obtain the outcome. In case you surpass the 6-month threshold with no decision on your application, rest assured the Home Office shall reach out to you to provide an update. It is essential to note that the delay in processing applications does not in any way jeopardize your rights.
A second assessment cannot be requested unless the initial review uncovers fresh grounds for the initial rejection. The determination letter will disclose whether a second review can be pursued.
If your visa was cancelled at the border
Upon receiving your decision letter, you will be informed about the possibility of requesting an administrative review to cancel your visa.
One has the option to request a reconsideration of their visa’s cancellation if it was due to any of the subsequent circumstances.
- Your circumstances have undergone alteration.
- You provided misleading data.
- You omitted pertinent information.
You must apply either:
- within 14 days of your visa being cancelled
- within 7 days if you were detained on the date your visa was cancelled
You need to do this from the UK.
If your visa was cancelled at border controls outside the UK
To avail yourself of an administrative assessment, it is necessary to submit your request within a time frame of 28 days following the cancellation of your visa in any of the subsequent cities:
- Paris
- Brussels
- Dunkirk
- Coquelles
- Calais
- Lille
The outcome of the administrative review may require waiting for a time span of over a year. Should the decision on your application not be communicated within six months, the Home Office will reach out to provide you with an update. It is important to note that your entitlements remain unaffected by any delays encountered during the application processing.
Applying for a second review is not possible, unless the first review uncovers additional evidence supporting the validity of the cancellation. Your eligibility for a second review will be disclosed in the decision letter you receive.
In the United Kingdom, removal is not typically carried out until the completion of your review, should you find yourself in such a situation.
