These individuals are UK residents, either currently or in the past, who didn’t require an official permission to stay due to the laws in place at the time they arrived. Consequently, they may not have obtained any documentation to prove their status.

In June 1948, the MV Empire Windrush docked at Tilbury Docks in Essex, UK. This ship, commonly known as ‘Windrush,’ carried individuals from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, along with other islands as a way to address the labor deficiencies in the UK following World War II.

The group known as the Windrush generation, who established themselves in the United Kingdom on the first day of January in 1973, were provided with unlimited permission to stay due to the enactment of the Immigration Act of 1971. Consequently, they possessed a lawful status to reside within the UK, albeit without any official documentation certifying their authorization to either enter or continue their stay.

The ‘Windrush Scheme’ offers potential eligibility for individuals who have been residing or establishing themselves in the UK for a significant period without possessing any official records attesting their immigration status.

• If you arrived in the UK prior to 31st December 1988 from any country and have since established your residency here,
• In the event that you migrated to the UK from a Commonwealth nation prior to 1973,
• In case your parents migrated to the UK from a Commonwealth nation prior to 1973,

You may apply for citizenship without any cost if you are a Commonwealth citizen and have settled in the UK prior to 1 January 1973, or if you are the offspring of such an individual.

• Individuals who possess a connection to a specific country or territory are regarded as citizens of the United Kingdom and colonies.
