Youth Mobility Scheme

A Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa allows 18 to 30 years old to live and work in the United Kingdom (‘UK’) for up to two years.

How do I qualify as a Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa worker?

To qualify for a Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa you must score 50 points in total from the following categories:

Nationality Requirement – 30 points

Age Requirement – 10 points

Maintenance Requirements – 10 points

You will not be eligible to apply for a Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa if you have previously spent time in the UK under the Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa or you have dependent children under the age of 18.

Nationality Requirement – 30 points

You will score 30 points if you are a citizen from one of the following countries:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Hong Kong special administrative region
  • Japan
  • Monaco
  • New Zealand
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan

You are also eligible to apply if you are an British overseas citizen, British overseas territories citizen, or British national (overseas).

Age – 10 points

You will score 10 points for age if you are either:

  • 18 years of age or over at the time when the entry clearance becomes valid; or
  • Under the age of 31 on the date the application was submitted.

Maintenance requirement – 10 points

You will score the required 10 points for maintenance if you have personal savings of at least £1,890 held in your bank account.

When to apply?

You can apply for a Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) up to 6 months before you travel.

Length of a Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa?

The Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa is valid for two years and the visa cannot be extended.

Family members of Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) workers

The Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa does not allow dependent family members to join you in the UK.
